EU–Mercosur on the final stretch

The European Parliament in Strasbourg has decided by a narrow majority to seek an legal opinion on whether the free trade agreement between the EU and the Mercosur countries, signed after 25 years of negotiations, is compatible with EU law. The European Court of Justice is to review the free trade agreement, which will delay the ratification process by months or even years.
