Legal Breakfast: Reducing labour costs and implementing restructuring in Germany and China: What companies should keep in mind

Date: 13 Oct. - 5 Nov. 2026

In light of the current global economic climate, many companies are having to restructure, scale back or even cease their operations in Germany and China. Workforce reductions, cost-cutting measures and the repatriation of expatriate employees present complex legal challenges and require an in-depth knowledge of both legal systems.

Taking place in Düsseldorf, Nuremberg, Munich, Frankfurt, and Hamburg, the interactive workshop will be led by Dr Charlotte Sander, Alexander Fischer, and Xinyi Wang. It will provide practical insights into labour law frameworks in Germany and China. Using concrete case studies, the workshop will highlight the similarities and differences in restructuring and personnel cost-cutting measures. Participants will learn to identify legal risks early on, develop effective strategies, and avoid costly mistakes. The workshop also offers an opportunity for open discussion and the exchange of experiences.

EU Pay Transparency in Practice: Taking Stock and Taking Action

Dbriefs Legal

Several EU Member States had already implemented the EU Pay Transparency Directive, requiring organisations to manage active compliance obligations, while others were preparing to finalise national legislation by 2027. Against this backdrop, employers were encouraged to assess their readiness, particularly as many Reward teams were entering annual pay review cycles. Since the July webinar, the regulatory landscape had continued to develop, with further progress in national draft legislation and early experiences from organisations already operating under the new rules helping to shape emerging compliance approaches.

The session on 23 September 2029 brought together Deloitte experts (including Klaus Heeke from Deloitte Legal Germany) from across Europe to focus on the latest developments, the lessons emerging from early movers, and the actions employers should prioritise as 2027 approached.
