The current German Working Time Act dates back to 1994. Since then, working conditions have changed fundamentally in many sectors. There are therefore widespread calls for new legislation that would allow greater flexibility in structuring daily working time. At the same time, employers are already required by case law to ensure that their employees' total daily working time is systematically recorded. Legislative reform remains pending, and the draft legislation under discussion since June 2026 has been met with differing views.
In our webcast on 30 September 2026, we will first outline the flexibility already available under current working time law. We will then examine potential changes arising from the ongoing reform process, particularly with regard to electronic systems for recording working time.
